2019-20 Academic Year

(Applications accepted on a rolling basis.)

NEW: Fort Washington Collegiate Church's Ministry of Music is delighted to announce the second year of our new Vocal Scholars Program beginning in Fall of 2019 for the academic year. The program, supported by the J. Harold Raplinger Memorial Fund, is open to high school and college-enrolled vocalists who maintain permanent or current residence in Upper Manhattan neighborhoods or the Bronx. This is a paid internship that requires Thursday evening and Sunday morning availability.

Overview

The FWCC Vocal Scholars Program provides hands-on professional training in vocal performance and musicianship for music students residing in neighborhoods of Upper Manhattan and the Bronx with the objective of further developing well-rounded musicians for careers in performance, ministry, education, and arts management.

Under the direction of Fort Washington’s Music Director, Vocal Scholars will engage in a broad course of study, widening their knowledge of contemporary and traditional vocal styles, and performing with FWCC’s Joyful Voices ensemble. Scholars will focus on widening their knowledge of contemporary vocal styles, including pop, gospel, musical theater, jazz, and more. Scholars will also receive training in traditional hymnody, foreign languages, and choral technique. In addition to vocal study, Scholars will elect a course of study to consist of one or more of the following, (guided independent study and one-on-one instruction on Thursday evenings):
